Hand-forged in Solingen: Every Güde undergoes over 40 careful manufacturing steps in our factory. The blade, made of chrome-vanadium-molybdenum steel, is ice-hardened and sharpened by hand – for wafer-thin tomato slices without any effort.
Why a special tomato knife?
A smooth chef's knife—even if it is sharp—slips on the smooth tomato skin or crushes the soft flesh when pressed through. The Güde works differently: the fine serrated edge grips the skin and gently saws through it. The result is appetizing, even slices with intact flesh.
The hand-forged blade made of stainless chrome-vanadium-molybdenum steel is ice-hardened, ensuring it stays sharp for a long time. The balanced design ensures precise guidance—important when cutting wafer-thin slices.
More about blade geometry
Unlike a bread knife, the serrated edge of a tomato knife is finer and flatter. This allows for thinner cuts and greater control when cutting delicate foods. The forked tip is no accident: it is used to pick up and serve the sliced pieces—directly from the board to the plate.
Buying tomato knives: Güde at a glance
Güde tomato knives in various series—all with the same high-quality blade but different handle materials. The choice depends on your preferences and the intended use.
For professional kitchens: Alpha Kappa
The Alpha with ergonomic handle made of robust Hostaform plastic meets the strict requirements of the catering industry. The handle is easy to clean, dishwasher-safe, and permanently attached with stainless steel rivets. The Kappa is made entirely from a single piece of stainless steel—seamless, hygienic, and dishwasher-safe.
For connoisseurs: elegant wooden handles
If you value feel and appearance, choose a tomato knife with a wooden handle: olive wood (100–500 years old, warm to the touch), barrel oak (from wine barrels over 80 years old), walnut, or pear. Each handle is unique. Wooden handles should not be placed in the dishwasher.
Modern and versatile: Delta
The Delta combines classic Solingen blacksmithing with modern design. The tomato knives in this series are also hand-forged and ice-hardened.
More than just tomatoes: versatile use
The fine serrated edge and forked tip make the Güde an all-rounder for delicate cutting tasks:
